St James Way - Camino de Santiago

Spain. Camino de Santiago. St James Way.

My first visit to Spain was thanks to this crazy idea my cousin have;

-“let’s walk the camino, the 3 of us, get to our spiritual side, drink all the wine and survive” She said…

After that we got excited, made reservations, bought air tickets, and began our “training”, so we won’t die while walking 117 km, right?.

We meet at Miami airport (one coming from Puerto Rico, another from Texas and I flew from Jacksonville). Cheers with some mojitos and left for Madrid- Santiago de Compostela and drove to Sarria. We stay there for a couple of days trying to get rid of the jet lag and began walking…. and walking…while listening to different languages/accents, eating tapas, and wine…lots of wine.

Like, seriously, by day four I was like, I just want fruit juice or soda. My cousins in the other hand, never got tired of wine.

I got amazed by the sightseeing, those little “pueblos” with houses made out of rocks, the green, the churches, the flowers, and the bars on the side of our route were awesome.

By the time we reached our next hostel, we were so tired. Just enough time to take a shower, have dinner and go to bed because next day most likely we need it to leave early . Normally between 6-7 am , right after breakfast.

By day 3 we were exhausted, our muscles were showing us that it is all lies, 40 is not the new 20, nah! I decided that we need it a massage done asap, and made reservations on our next stop to just pampered ourselves and keep going for day 4 and 5.

Remember the “training” we supposedly began as soon as we bought the air tickets? Ha! Yeah, it was a joke, but…

…after crossing eucalyptus forest ( That smell was mega relaxing and it was gorgeous) , getting to some insta spots, walking around cows, and taking photos with our beautiful Puertorrican flag, we made it to Santiago de Compostela.

before crossing towards the cathedral, we were greeted by beautiful classical music and as soon as we got there took some photos and satin front of the cathedral. All the feels… we were beyond happy!

It was beautiful, sunny , but not hot, kids running around…like a movie. Even the background music!

WE FREAKING DID IT!!!!!
