Photography trends for 2022

So, you are seeing a lot of stuff regarding photography and trends.

Well, let’s talk about that...

Trends

  • No filter- What!? Some people will freak out about this one :P What does this mean? The focus is to capture the subject's inherent look and use your camera to create the scene without filters/presets/actions. Also, psychologically speaking, maybe it is time to love yourself within? It will be the connection between self care- self love and mental health. Yes, images can do that and more! This trend will mean less editing for us photographer’s, but it will be a good challenge as an artist to “play” with light and know our clients in a more intimate way. I am excited about this, I want to try so many ways to do special portraits for my clients!!!

  • Older Models - Yes, 1000 times yeas to this! Marketers are using people from all ages to represent products, brands and business. Age representation is just another way to appreciate every market and their power on society. Also, those grandma and grandpa portraits are worth millions for our families. Let’s make them feel great about themselves and how important they are for us too.

  • Diversity- This is something that I am very aware of, my clients are diverse, because I am a curious person, I love learning and represent cultures, different types of bodies, races, and ages. I mean how beautiful is my portfolio? :D I do not understand why other photographers only niche on one type of race for example. We are so diverse, beautiful and interesting…

  • Emotive/Candids- Yes! My vibe is here! Avoiding too stiff- formal- stressful images is a beautiful trend! Hopefully people will focus more on this, the more relaxed they are, the more natural or authentic clients images will be, and the easier it will be for us ( photographers) to capture some good emotions.

  • Drone Photography- Definitely the perspective is different with drones, the storytelling, the feel of an image or video can change by using a drone. ***For photographers; make sure you review the permits/licenses you’ll need to operate a drone.***

  • Videos - Definitely this is one of my focus for 2022. I’m learning new techniques to incorporate film of a scene, capture stills from the video, and shoot stills to ensure you have something great as part of your session.

  • Back to Film- I admit, I love using my lil film camera. The colors, and the way I work an image is magical, and I am adapting some of the metal set up I have while using film when I use my mirrorless. Creativity play a huge point on this mental set up that film always bring.

At the end of the day it is about uniqueness, creating a style that not only clients want but it defines your brand as a photographer. Simplicity and minimalism is the hot trend!!! Are you a photographer? A client? What do you think about this?
