A photographer creativity is crucial in our career. We set ourselves apart by being creative, unique, and enjoying the process. But, sometimes we hit a wall. We get too busy, there’s too much pressure around us and we get tired of working in auto mode.

Our minds can be dangerous. Our minds can play trick on us. Our minds are powerful. If we cannot identify the signs and moments of weakness, it could be damaging for us and our careers. I have embarked on a personal journey of growth and self-discovery in this ever-evolving field. I believe there are some points we all experience that can be the dead of our creativity…

One of the deadliest obstacles that can hinder a photographer's creativity is a lack of confidence. Doubting one's own abilities and second-guessing every decision can lead to a paralysis of creativity. The fear of not being good enough, not measuring up to the impossibly high standards of others, can suffocate even the most talented artist. I have experienced this inner battle myself, feeling as though my work could never compare to the masters of the craft. But through introspective reflection, I have come to realize that true artistry lies not in comparison but in embracing one's unique vision and voice.

Let’s talk about trends…

Do you feel there is this pressure to create these trending photos, and if you don’t, are you even a photographer? The pursuit of recreating photos we have seen millions of times, are not allowing our creativity to flourish. We are restraining the natural curse of art and our own styles.

Trend can be fun, but being asked for it feels like ; Why? Why everyone want the same freaking thing? Why “One size fits All”? If we all are different, like different stuff, and live in different ways. I honestly get discourage when someone ask me to do something trendy.Trends can also be a double-edged sword when it comes to nurturing creativity. While it is natural to seek inspiration from others and to be influenced by prevailing styles, blindly following trends can lead to a loss of individuality. As a photographer, I strive to set myself apart by crafting an emotive and unique narrative through my images. Yet, in a world saturated with images and influenced by fleeting fads, it can be tempting to abandon one's own artistic journey in favor of conformity. The key is to find a delicate balance - to draw inspiration from others while staying true to one's own creative vision.

Negative feedback can pierce through our creative armor and shatter our self-confidence. As a moment seeker photographer, I have exposed my work to scrutiny and criticism, constantly seeking improvement and growth. However, it is important to remember that negative feedback should not be regarded as a death sentence to our creativity. Instead, we should view it as an opportunity for growth, a chance to learn from the perspectives of others while remaining true to our own artistic compass. Constructive criticism can be a catalyst for evolution, pushing us to refine our craft and take our work to new heights.

Impostor syndrome is another silent killer of creativity.

The persistent feeling of being a fraud, of not truly deserving the success or recognition received, can erode the confidence that is so vital for artistic expression. As a photographer, specializing in capturing the raw emotions and connections between couples, it is easy to fall into the trap of self-doubt. Should I really be entrusted with capturing these intimate moments? Am I truly skilled enough to seize the essence of love and beauty? But it is essential to remember that these doubts are merely figments of our own imagination, and the only true impostor is the fear that threatens to stifle our creative spirit.

There are times when this elusive muse eludes even the most seasoned photographers, threatening to stifle their artistic growth and potential.

A lack of inspiration can be a suffocating force, dimming the light that fuels our passion for storytelling. It's as if the universe conspires against us, withholding those captivating moments of serendipity that we so eagerly chase. In these moments, our artistic vision becomes clouded, and we find ourselves desperately grasping at anything that can reignite the fire within.

In such times of creative drought, it becomes crucial to explore the deeper underpinnings of our craft. To delve into introspective and reflective thoughts, allowing ourselves to reconnect with the essence of why we embarked on this artistic journey in the first place. Reminding ourselves of the power and beauty present in every frame we capture, no matter how ordinary it may seem.

Lastly, perfectionism can be the final nail in the coffin of creativity. I've been capturing the intimate moments of couples in stunning locations such as Puerto Rico, Florida, Japan, Spain, Macau, Hawaii …, it is all too easy to become obsessed with capturing the perfect shot. But this quest for perfection can become suffocating, squeezing the life out of our creativity and preventing us from truly expressing ourselves. Embracing the imperfections, finding beauty in the raw and unpolished, opens up a world of possibilities for unique and evocative art.

From battling a lack of confidence and impostor syndrome to avoiding the pitfalls of trends, negative feedback, perfectionism, while the challenges of a lack of inspiration, ethical dilemmas, and the constant pursuit of education can sometimes feel daunting, I am grateful for each experience that compels me to push beyond my boundaries. These obstacles shape me as an artist, allowing me to grow not just in skill but also in my connection with the world around me.
